Laser eye surgery, commonly known as refractive surgery, is a groundbreaking procedure designed to correct vision problems such as nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. Using advanced laser technology, this surgery reshapes the cornea to improve how the eye focuses light, reducing or eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses.

What is IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)?

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a medical procedure that helps couples struggling with infertility to conceive. By combining eggs and sperm in a laboratory, IVF creates embryos, which are then transferred to the uterus to establish a pregnancy. This treatment has brought hope and joy to millions of families worldwide.

What is IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)?

IVF is an effective solution for a variety of infertility challenges, including:

  • Blocked or Damaged Fallopian Tubes: IVF bypasses the fallopian tubes, making it an ideal option for women with these issues.
  • Male Factor Infertility: Low sperm count or poor motility can be overcome through advanced techniques like ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection).
  • Endometriosis: IVF increases the chances of conception for women with endometriosis.
  • Unexplained Infertility: IVF provides a pathway for couples who haven’t identified the cause of their infertility.
  • Advanced Maternal Age: Women over 35 can benefit from IVF to increase their chances of conceiving.
  • Genetic Screening: IVF allows for genetic testing of embryos to ensure healthy pregnancies and reduce the risk of inherited conditions.

Steps of the IVF Process

  • Initial Consultation and Testing:
A comprehensive evaluation of both partners’ fertility is conducted to create a tailored treatment plan.

  • Ovarian Stimulation:
Fertility medications stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs for retrieval.

  • Egg Retrieval:
A minor surgical procedure is performed under anesthesia to collect mature eggs.

  • Fertilization:
The collected eggs are combined with sperm in a lab to create embryos.

  • Embryo Transfer:
The healthiest embryo(s) are selected and transferred to the uterus.

  • Pregnancy Test:
Two weeks after the transfer, a blood test is conducted to confirm pregnancy.

WHAT ARE THE STEPS OF THE IVF METHOD?

STEP 1 (Initial examination and couple assessment)

The couple’s previous treatments and stories such as pregnancy, childbirth and miscarriage are listened to. If any, old analysis and examination results are evaluated.

  • Any surgical report or note
  • Sperm analysis
  • Female and male blood tests
  • Reports of previous treatments
  • Uterus movie
  • Chromosome analysis
  • Reports on other diseases

According to all these data, IVF treatment is planned and the day of treatment is determined.

Egg-enhancing drugs (needle therapy) are applied to select good embryos in the ovaries and place them in the uterus and create a large number of eggs. Drug dosage and treatment process vary according to the patient’s age and egg reserve. It takes 8-12 days on average.
The developing eggs are collected under anesthesia and stored for fertilization under laboratory conditions. Meanwhile, the male also gives sperm. Just like in the sperm analysis, sperm is taken by masturbation. Sperm is taken from men who cannot give sperm with the micro TESE method. On average, this process takes half an hour. For the sperm sample to be given on the day of egg collection, the man should do a sexual abstinence for 2-4 days. This period should not be longer than 7 days.

Classical IVF-IVF (In Vitro Fertilization): It was a technique used in the early years of IVF, when microinjection had not yet been discovered. In recent years, since fertilization rates are lower than ICSI, it has become an undesirable IVF technique.

Microinjection (ICSI): It is the injection of sperm directly into the egg through a pipette under the microscope. Microinjection (ICSI) method is widely used in IVF treatment today. The purpose of microinjection is to increase fertilization to high rates by meeting the egg with the sperm one by one. Microinjection is widely used, especially in severe male infertility.

After the sperm taken from the man and the egg taken from the woman are combined under the microscope, they are followed up to the 6th day according to their development in the devices we call the incubator, which resembles the body environment.

Fertilized eggs stored in the laboratory for two to six days are painlessly placed in the uterus with the help of a special catheter. This process takes 5-10 minutes. Sexual intercourse is not recommended until the pregnancy test. Paracetamol group drugs can be used as pain relievers. You can take a bath in the form of a warm shower 1 day after the transfer.

A pregnancy test is performed 12 days after the transfer process, and it is learned whether pregnancy has occurred or not. This test is a blood test called BHCG in the blood that does not require fasting and satiety.

The patient is called for ultrasound control 1 week to 10 days after pregnancy is detected. Patients living outside the city or abroad, on the other hand, have their controls done at their location and provide information. Although it is a normal pregnancy after conception, we do not stop the drug support we use, especially in the first 3 months.

What awaits me on the first date?

For the purpose of reviewing previous fertility treatments at the first appointment and evaluating the most appropriate treatment and test options to make you achieve your dreams;

  • You will receive 4-dimensional Ultrasound examination for a comprehensive evaluation of the ovaries, hormone profile, general health status, screening for a health problem that may pose a risk to the mother and baby during pregnancy, genetic counseling and psychological support if necessary.
  • Planning for the evaluation of the uterine wall with ultrasound at the appropriate time in the middle of the menstrual period
  • Examination of the old uterine film HSG (uterine film), if any
  • You should apply with a sexual abstinence of at least 2 and at most 5 days from the day of your appointment for the evaluation of the male factor. When the general health status of the man, his life habits, hormonal status and semen analysis are evaluated, if a problem is observed, you will be contacted by a urologist.

All stages of IVF treatment take an average of 15-18 days.

No. Your partner may only come on the day of egg collection to give a sperm sample. However, your spouse’s sperm analysis should be seen and evaluated by our specialists. We can ask for consultation from our urology specialist when necessary. For this reason, it is necessary to make a detailed evaluation that the mother and father-to-be attend the first interview together. In this evaluation, after it is determined that the sperm analysis of the father-to-be is sufficient in in vitro fertilization, it is sufficient for the father-to-be to come only on the day of egg collection.

Can I travel after embryo transfer?

On the same day as the plane.

  • Hygiene is the most important issue in giving a sperm sample.
  • The sample container must be an identified and sterile container.
  • Care should be taken to ensure that no foreign substance is mixed into the semen sample, as it will affect sperm motility and vitality.
  • The entire ejaculate sample must be taken into the vessel without sample loss.
  • In case of sample loss, the laboratory must be informed.
  • The sample delivered to the laboratory is evaluated after 30 minutes of liquefaction and taken to the necessary preparation processes.

You can continue your daily social activities during your treatment. Eating, shopping, daily walks, going to the hairdresser, getting hair dyed, swimming in the sea will not affect your treatment process.

There is no need for daily control throughout the treatment. The first step of IVF treatment is the period of stimulating the ovaries by giving medication. This period lasts an average of 8-10 days. During this period, ultrasonography examinations are performed approximately 3 or 4 times. If necessary, hormone analyzes are performed. When the diameter of the follicle containing the egg cells reaches a sufficient size, the egg cracking needle is given and the egg collection process is performed 2 days later. The fertilization process of the eggs collected with the sperm sample taken from the male on the day of the egg collection process is performed. The embryo transfer is performed 2-5 days after the fertilization process, depending on the number of fertilized eggs.

There is no restriction on sexual intercourse during the stimulation period of the ovaries. However, there should be no sexual intercourse after the injection of the egg cracking injection. We do not recommend sexual intercourse until the embryo transfer and the result of the pregnancy test afterwards.
